Recruiting and Referring Mentors

Oregon Mentors actively recruits potential mentors and connects them to programs around the state. The best way to learn about mentoring programs in your community is though our statewide database — the most comprehensive list of mentoring programs in Oregon and SW Washington. Potential mentors, companies, youth, parents, and funders can find detailed information about the programs in their community.

But the database is just one part of volunteer recruiting; people’s awareness of it is, naturally, equally critical. We build awareness about the fun, diversity of opportunities, and need for volunteers through large scale initiatives including:

Media Relations & Marketing

Each January, Oregon Mentors joins the nationwide celebration of National Mentoring Month - an annual, concentrated burst of national and local media activity combined with extensive community outreach. Starting in 2008, we plan to allocate more dollars and board of director resources to a sustained media campaign in targeted areas of the state.

Workplace or Organization-wide initiatives

We work with companies, business and membership organizations, and other groups to encourage involvement in mentoring. For example, for the past five years, Liberty NW has been an active partner in National Mentoring Month advertising and marketing throughout the state.
