Program Description

The ASPIRE Volunteer Advisor Program assists high school counselors to help students overcome financial, cultural, and academic barriers to education beyond high school. ASPIRE focuses on training volunteer advisors to work with students who need encouragement, information, and technical assistance to achieve their post high school goals.

Population Served

Parkrose High School students who request an ASPIRE mentor.

Goals and Objectives

Provide mentoring and resources to help students access education and training beyond high school. Help high schools build a sustainable community of volunteer mentors. Educate students and families about the scholarship application process and other options for paying for postsecondary education.

Mentor Profile

úMeet on a regular basis with 1-10 assigned students to develop their Post High School Plan & Activities Chart and assist with their financial aid and admissions applicationsúProvide materials and coaching for "test-taking" and essay writing skillsúBe knowledgeable and assist with updating career education resources including computer accessed information úAssist with informational meetings for parents and studentsúMaintain confidentiality, follow ASPIRE guidelines, school policies and regulations

Hours Needed

  • Mornings: 8 am to Noon
  • Afternoon: Noon to 3 pm
  • After School: 3 pm to 5 pm
