Program Description
The ASPIRE Volunteer Advisor program expands and enhances the reach of high school counselors to help students overcome financial, cultural, and academic barriers to education beyond high school. ASPIRE focuses on training volunteer advisors to work with students who need encouragement, information, and technical assistance to achieve their post high school goals.
Population Served
Coquille is a rural area with approximatley 3,000 residents. Target population is Coquille HIgh School students grades 9-12, male or female, and of any ethnic background.
Goals and Objectives
To mentor and advise all students in their post secondary educational planning; increase the number of students seeking and receiving scholarships; provide support for volunteer recruitment, screening, and supervision; and encourage citizen and community involvement in public schools.

Mentor Profile
Meet with 1-10 students on a regular basis. Assist students to define their goals and the activities they need help with, and record these on the "Student Tracker" form. Atttend volunteer meetings and trainings. Become familiar with the ASPIRE curriculum materials, website, and other web resources. Follow ASPIRE guidelines, school policies, and regulations regarding confidentiality, meeting times, safety, etc. Report any volunteer accident or incident to site supervisor. Participate in the program year-end evaluation.
Hours Needed
- Mornings: 8 am to Noon
- Afternoon: Noon to 3 pm
- After School: 3 pm to 5 pm
- Evenings: 5 pm to 9 pm
